He finished with a total of 367 points, an incredible 147 points ahead of 2nd place.  in 2006 things look bad he had crashed in the first two races and did not finish.  climbing through the ranks that year rossi finshed a respective 2nd place to nicky hayden.  in 2007 he finshed third, in 2008 he bounced back and won the championship again.  there were many rumors about rossi switching from 2 wheels to four.  he even was testing f-1 cars for ferrari. no official comment has been made by ferrari or rossi but he continues to test carts in his offseason.  currently he is tied for first place with jorge lorenzo, his teammate, and casey stoner of ducati marlboro. all three have 106 points and thenearest competitor to them has 69 points.
